Case Study - Double R Racing

Overview

Double R Racing, a team with a distinguished history in motorsport and a proven track record of success in championships like British F3 and F4, approached GridMedia with a unique challenge: to design and produce pit wall graphics for their drivers, Alex Simms and Matt Solomon, who were competing in the Macau GP. This project, marking the team's 10th anniversary at this prestigious event, demanded a design that celebrated its legacy while capturing the electrifying atmosphere of Macau.

The Challenge

With a tight timescale looming to meet freight deadlines for the Macau GP, we had to work quickly and efficiently to deliver high-quality imagery that met Double R Racing's expectations and high standards. The challenge was to create a design that incorporated both individual driver branding and team continuity, ensuring clear visibility and recognition whilst incorporating the excitement of Macau itself.

The Solution

Our solution involved a multi-faceted approach. We began by immersing ourselves in the Double R Racing brand and visual identity. We then incorporated these elements into a bold and dynamic design that featured the iconic Macau skyline at night, driver names, team colours, the Macau track layout, and a victory laurel to highlight this critical team landmark, creating a striking visual statement that captured the energy of the race.

To ensure optimal visual impact, we went the extra mile - we built a 3D computer model of the pit garages, allowing us to visualise the graphics in their intended environment and make any necessary adjustments. This meticulous attention to detail ensured that the final product would meet and exceed Double R Racing's expectations.

The Result

Despite the tight turnaround, we delivered a set of eye-catching pit wall graphics that made a bold statement at the Macau GP. The design successfully blended driver recognition with brand continuity, creating a cohesive and prominent presence for Double R Racing.

The graphics looked fantastic on TV and provided excellent backdrops for promotional shots, as seen in Matt Solomon's shoot. This project shows our ability to deliver high-quality results under pressure, solidifying our reputation as a trusted partner in the motorsport industry. And to cap it all off, Alex Simms secured a podium finish!
